A Prosperous Family Podcast - Episode 3
Many parents spend their lives watching their children. But we rarely talk about what children learn by watching their parents. Some of my earliest lessons about giving, saving, and thinking ahead came from standing beside my dad as he built relationships and made thoughtful decisions. Even my first allowance became a teaching moment about tithing, savings, and taxes. At the time it felt small, yet it shaped the way I think about planning today. Those early habits continue to influence how I help families navigate decisions, coordinate moving parts, and think about the future with clarity. I share this story in Chapter Two of my book, A Prosperous Family, and in the latest episode of my podcast. The chapter is called “Watching Dad” for a reason.
A Prosperous Family Podcast - Episode 2
Most long-term decisions don’t begin with a detailed plan. Sometimes they start in unexpected places.
For me, one of those moments happened on a nine-month RV trip when my wife and I spent New Year’s Eve at a Dave & Buster’s in New York City. We walked past the New York Stock Exchange that week, and I remember thinking, someday I want to see what happens behind those walls.
A decade later, I stood on the floor of the exchange during a closing bell ceremony. That experience didn’t happen overnight; it grew from a series of small decisions, early preparation, and the influence of parents who taught me to think ahead.
That’s the theme of Chapter 1 of A Prosperous Family: progress takes direction, and direction takes early preparation. My dad set up early accounts for me, taught me responsibility, and encouraged me to think about the long view long before I understood why it mattered. Now I see the same patterns when working with families who want to create their own version of that foundation.
Every family’s path looks different. But the conversations that shape the next generation usually start long before the results show up.
